A doctor has revealed a non-obvious cause of heart attacks and strokes

Loneliness after retirement may be one of the causes that trigger heart attacks and strokes in older people. This non-obvious factor in the development of life-threatening conditions was revealed by consultant in emergency medicine, Professor Rob Gallaway, writes the Daily Mail.

According to the doctor, the mechanism of the effect of loneliness on the work of the heart and blood vessels is incredibly complex, but boils down to the fact that a person experiences stress, which leads to an increase in blood pressure. “Also, the stress response affects chemicals in the body called cytokines. These cause inflammation, which is a recognized cause of premature aging,” Gallaway revealed.
