Only six people have been confirmed to have been infected with Alaska Smallpox, all of them in the Fairbanks area. All have resulted from contact with animals. Small mammals have been tested for AKPV and it has been found mainly in red voles and squirrels. Because there are very few cases, epidemiologists don’t know exactly how humans can contract the virus. Rogers believes that the virus is most likely transmitted by direct contact with an infected animal.
Earlier it was reported that the wolf that attacked four people in the Kurgan region, suspected zombie virus. Zombie virus was first detected in the American state of Colorado, the infection got its name because of the loss of orientation in diseased deer.
